Is it a dead site or just waiting for the right browser? The old pixel art gallery debate

Last week I found this pixel art gallery from 2004 that still loads, but only on Internet Explorer 8 in a virtual machine. I spent 2 hours getting it running, and the art was actually pretty good. But it made me wonder, are these forgotten sites worth the hassle or should we just leave them in the past? 3 years ago I would've said archive everything, but now I'm leaning toward letting some things die. Has anyone else fought with an old site's compatibility and decided it wasn't worth it?

Were you glad you went through all that trouble once you actually saw the art, or did the hassle kinda kill the magic for you? I feel you, I've spent way too many nights fighting old plugins for a tiny hit of nostalgia that sometimes just isn't there.
