Is it weird that I check dead forums for old recipes before trying new ones?

I read a 2007 post on a dormant cooking board insisting boxed mac and cheese tastes better with a splash of pickle juice, so I tried it and now I'm torn between never trusting that rando again or admitting they were onto something, anyone else got a bizarre old-site tip that actually worked or backfired hard?
