Just realized I threw $60 at "reviving" dead Geocities pages and I want those nights back
So for about two months I was obsessed with this idea that I could save old GeoCities neighborhoods by rebuilding them page by page before the Wayback Machine lost them forever. I spent $60 on a domain and hosting, plus probably 30 hours typing old HTML from screenshots, and 90 percent of those pages already had a working archive link I never bothered to check. The truth is I was just copying what already existed, and the few pages that were actually gone nobody was looking for anyway. I changed my mind after a guy on a forum pointed out that the archive does the saving and my "revival" was just me being lonely at 1am. Now I poke around dead sites for fun and leave the hoarding to the people with servers. Anyone else here ever wasted cash on a project the internet already finished without them?
