Question about those old 'web rings' that linked similar sites together

I spent last Sunday clicking through a web ring from 1998 about obscure knitting patterns, and every link still worked but the ring itself was dead, no traffic. It got me thinking, are these things a fun time capsule that should be kept alive or just digital clutter taking up server space? What do you all think, worth preserving or better left in the past?

Didn't someone archive a bunch of these for a museum project?

Yeah, "museum project" sounds right. I remember someone from the Internet Archive was grabbing old forum posts and game guides for a digital history thing. They ended up saving a lot of stuff I thought was gone for good.
