That 'haunted' dial-up BBS from 1997 turned out to be a local librarian
I found this old BBS number in a defunct webring archive, some creepy text about a 'midnight node' that only answered after 2am. Set my alarm for 2:15 on a Tuesday, dialed in with my old US Robotics courier, and a guy named Dave from Portland picked up. Turns out he ran the town library's bulletin board system in his spare time and kept the lore going as a joke. He still logs in weekly, has about 40 active users worldwide, and archives every weird old site file you can think of. Anyone else ever actually get through to one of these ghost boards, or just me?
