The old web directory site beat my app-based bookmarking system by a mile
I spent last Tuesday rebuilding my whole bookmark setup in a modern app with tags and sync and everything. Then I stumbled onto this ancient link directory from 2005 called something like Open Directory Project leftovers, still updated by one guy in Wisconsin. I imported 40 of my saved links just by pasting them in, and the categorization he had already built matched my needs better than my custom folders. The site loads in under a second on my crappy work laptop, no login, no paywall, just plain HTML. Compare that to the app which took 3 minutes to sign in and then asked me to upgrade twice. Has anyone else gone back to these old hand-coded directories and found them more usable than modern tools?
