A client in Charlotte said my balayage looked 'too stripey' and it made me change my technique

She pointed out that my back sections had clear lines of demarcation, which I honestly hadn't noticed before. I switched from painting on three large horizontal sections to doing much smaller, vertical slices, and I started using a different brush, the Olivia Garden Balayage one. Has anyone else had a specific piece of feedback that totally shifted how you approach a common service?

Happens all the time in my line of work. A client pointed out my photos looked flat because I always used the same lighting angle. That one comment made me finally see the pattern I was stuck in. Now I constantly look for my own blind spots, because someone else's view always catches what you've gotten used to.

Man that's so true. It's crazy how you can stare at your own work forever and miss the obvious thing. Outside eyes are like a reset button for your brain. Makes me wonder what else I'm not seeing right now.

Wait, that's not exactly what a blind spot is though. A blind spot is something you literally can't see, like the area behind you. You just got used to your own style, which is different. Still, a fresh look always helps break your habits for sure.
