A client's comment about her chemo cap made me pause

I was fitting a custom wig for a client, Linda, last Thursday. She mentioned her old synthetic cap was 'itchy and looked like a helmet.' She said, 'I just want to look like me again, not like I'm wearing a costume.' That hit different because I realized I'd been focusing on perfect coverage and not enough on natural movement and comfort. How do you guys balance technical precision with making hair feel personal and real?

Try a lighter base and hand-tie the hair for more bounce.

Used to be all about heavy wefts for security, but a lighter base really does let the hair move better. Hand-tying seemed like extra work for no reason until I tried it. The bounce you get is totally different, way more natural. It was a game changer for my last custom piece. Never going back to the old method now.

Did you ever have that moment where something just clicks and you see your work totally different? I was the same way, dead set on thick wefts for that 'secure' feel. But after doing a few hand-tied pieces with a lighter base, the way the hair actually moves is night and day. It feels less like a helmet and more like them, even if it took me a while to admit the old method was missing the point.
