Glossy client hair kept grabbing my scissors, found out why

Last month I did a full balayage on a client in Austin and my scissors kept snagging halfway through, not clean cuts at all. Turns out she had buildup from a keratin treatment she never told me about, so a quick clarifying shampoo and chelating rinse before the cut fixed it. Has anyone else run into hidden product history messing with their shears?

Dug into this same thing a few weeks back after watching a tutorial from a stylist in Dallas who talked about how silicone buildup in old conditioners can mess up shears the same way. She said its basically like a film that coats the blade edge and makes it drag instead of slide, which sounds exactly like what you ran into. I had a client once who used those at home gloss treatments and my thinning shears felt sticky halfway through, had to stop and wipe them down with alcohol mid cut. The clarifying step is smart, I dont think enough people realize that keratin treatments can leave that residue behind for weeks, not just right after they get it done. Good call catching it before you blamed your tools and went out buying new ones.
