Had a chat with a new stylist that really got me thinking

I was helping out at the front desk yesterday and this fresh out of school girl asked me why I still use foils when balayage is faster. She said my highlights look great but I'm "wasting time" and could charge double for the same look with a different technique. Has anyone else had a junior stylist challenge their whole process like that?

Heard my friend got the same talk from her new assistant last week.

Three of my coworkers got the same pitch and honestly it was fine with them. If a new assistant is laying out expectations early on that saves everyone headaches later. People complain about "the talk" but what they really mean is clear boundaries. I'd rather know upfront what someone expects than guess and mess up. Your friend might just be overthinking it because change feels weird at first. Give it a month and nobody will care about that conversation anymore.
