Heard a stylist in line at the supply house say 'you can't fix a bad cut with a good color'
I always thought a great color job could cover up a lot of mistakes. That one line made me stop and realize I was putting the cart before the horse. How do you guys handle a client who wants color when the cut foundation isn't right?

Does a bad cut really matter if the client hates the brass or gray tones more? I've seen @karenthompson's point about foundations being key, but sometimes a root touch-up and gloss make the whole haircut look intentional. Last week I had a client with a choppy bob that wasn't sitting right and the toner blended everything into a nice seamless shape. You can also use lowlights to create depth that hides uneven lengths. Not defending sloppy work, but color does fix what scissors messed up.

That's like trying to fix a cracked wall with a great paint job. How do you even start that conversation?

Totally get what @phoenixd97 means. See this all the time where people just cover up problems instead of fixing them. Makes you wonder how many things are just fancy paint jobs.
