Rant: A senior stylist told me I was layering too high on my cuts and she was totally right
I used to always start my layers at the crown (you know, that classic mistake) because I thought it gave more volume. But a stylist with 20 years experience watched me do a layered bob on a client last month and said "honey, you're taking off 3 inches of weight where it needs to stay." She showed me to start layers about 2 inches lower, around the occipital bone, and my cuts actually hold their shape way longer now. The volume still comes through but without that weird mushroom top look. Has anyone else had a senior stylist call out one of their habits like that?

That low occipital layer trick TOTALLY changed how I approach cuts now.

The 1 inch section behind the ear is barely visible even with that technique. Most clients don't want to pay extra for something that just gets hidden anyway. Real world results are way different than what you see in those instructional videos lol.
