Realized I had been sectioning hair wrong for 8 years after a client pointed it out

So I had this regular client, Sarah, who comes in every 6 weeks for a full highlight. Last Tuesday she casually asked why I always section her crown in triangles instead of squares. I told her that's just how I learned it in beauty school back in 2016. She laughed and showed me a YouTube video from a stylist in Dallas who explained how square sections give way more even saturation. I tried it on her next section and the color laid down so much smoother. Now I'm embarrassed I went almost a decade doing it the hard way. Has anyone else had a basic technique they just never questioned until someone called it out?

Spent two years swiping my windshield wipers the wrong way before a gas station attendant set me straight.

I married a woman who loaded the dishwasher with everything facing up for five years before I mentioned most people angle the spray arm down, and now I wonder what other little things we all just accept without thinking.
