Seven years of bleaching and I just figured out my sectioning was all wrong
I've been doing highlights on my own clients for 7 years and last week my mentor watched me work and pointed out I was parting horizontally instead of following the curve of the head. She showed me the right way on one side and the difference in lift was so obvious I felt like an idiot. Any other stylists have that one basic technique you thought you had down but totally missed?

Is it really that deep though? Like yeah sectioning matters but ive seen people do highlights with off the wall partings and still get good results. Maybe your mentor is just super picky about technique. Unless you were literally getting bad results clients werent complaining about the difference was probably small enough nobody noticed. Sometimes we overthink this stuff.

I get what you're saying about overthinking, Charles, but I found that being consistent with sectioning saved me time in the long run. When I stopped being casual about my partings, my color placement was more even and I had fewer patchy spots to fix. It might seem like a small thing, but for me it made a real difference in how clean my highlights looked.
