TIL a 72 year old barber taught me more about scissors than my $400 training class

Went to a swap meet in Phoenix last Saturday and this old dude was sharpening blades at his booth. I offhand mentioned I spent $400 on a scissor technique class and he laughed. Then he showed me his beat up pair from 1987 and explained how he adjusts tension mid cut for different hair textures. Blew my mind honestly. The class taught me angles and grips but nothing about feel. His whole setup cost maybe $60 at a flea market. So how do you all learn the little tricks, YouTube or old school folks? Any other gems you picked up from unexpected places?
