Why does nobody talk about how thin fine hair looks after a big color change
I had a client come in about 4 months ago with level 3 dark brown hair down past her shoulders. She wanted to go platinum blonde for her sister's wedding in San Diego. I told her we needed to do it in stages, and she agreed to 3 sessions spaced about 6 weeks apart. After the first round she already looked 2 inches balder at the crown because the lightener lifted the cuticle and made everything see through under salon lights. By the third session the color was beautiful but her density looked cut in half. I started charging for a bond builder and a gloss as part of every lift now, but I am still not sure I handled the consult right. Has anyone found a way to prep clients for that see through phase so they do not panic at session two?
Two words: dry shampoo. If she sees the scalp less, session two panic drops, and a tinted powder on the part hides that see through crown better than any pep talk.
