A retired guy at the yard yesterday told me to stop greasing my pins every single day
He said I was washing out the seals by over-lubing and showed me his crane with 20 year old pins that never had issues. Has anyone else gone against the manual for pin maintenance?

I used to be in the "more grease is better" camp myself, hitting my pins every morning without fail. But after talking to a couple of old timers at the truck stop and seeing their rigs with original pins still tight, I switched to every other day. It just makes more sense now to let the grease do its job without drowning everything.

Oh man, that old timer is totally right! I ruined the pins on my skid steer last year by smothering them in grease every morning like the manual said. Actually overdid it so bad the seals blew out and started leaking grease everywhere, what a mess. Now I just hit them once a week and they feel way better, no squeaking or anything. The manual gets it wrong sometimes, especially on older machines.
