Bought a $220 load cell display for my old Grove and it paid for itself on the very first pick
We run a 1978 Grove RT58 on smaller jobs around Bakersfield and the old mechanical load chart was always a guess. My operator Ray kept saying we were leaving capacity on the table because nobody wanted to push it without a real readout. So I finally bought a used load cell display setup for $220 off a retired guy in Fresno, and I rigged it up on the boom tip over a weekend. Last Tuesday we had a rooftop HVAC unit to set, 3,800 pounds at 34 feet radius, and that little screen showed us we could boom out further than the chart said and still stay safe. The general contractor was watching and asked how we knew it was good, I pointed at the display and he just nodded. Saved us from a second setup and probably two hours of rigging on a hot afternoon. Now Ray wants one on the 90 ton too, so I'm curious if anyone here has run these cheap aftermarket readouts long term, do they hold up in the dust or am I going to be replacing sensors every season?
