Foreman told me to 'feel the load' instead of watching the gauge
On a job site in Phoenix last August, my foreman said he could tell a 12 ton beam was about to swing just by the vibration in the hoist cable. I laughed it off until I saw him catch a nasty weathercock that my load cell said was stable. Does anyone else trust their gut over the instruments in tricky wind?

Right, @richardrodriguez, I've learned to trust the shake in the cable over the screen when the wind picks up like that.

Man, I've been there. Your gut feeling comes from experience (you know, all those little things your brain picks up without you realizing it). I always start with the instruments for a baseline, but if something feels off I'll trust my hands and ears. Wind is tricky because it can hit a beam different than what a gauge shows, especially in a place like Phoenix with those sudden gusts. The key is to not ignore either one - use the gauge to double check your gut, not the other way around.
