Found out the new Liebherr 100-ton crane has a 0.5 second lag on the remote boom control, got that from a service bulletin I stumbled on last night

On one hand that safety feature stops you from slamming the load into a wall, on the other hand it makes fine adjustments a pain in the ass when you're threading a beam through tight steel - anyone else run into this with the newer models?

Wait, are you sure that lag is actually a bad thing for fine work? I've been on sites where guys got way too comfortable with the old instant response and ended up bouncing loads off of columns because they couldn't react fast enough... that half second gives you a buffer to think. Plus, with the way those new joysticks feather out the hydraulics, you can still inch the boom forward if you're patient and don't rush the trigger. Honestly, I'd rather have that delay than deal with the whiplash from a sudden stop on an older machine.

nah man i feel you on that, it's frustrating when you're trying to feather it in just right and the machine feels like it's thinking about it first. i was on a job last week fitting a HVAC unit through a tight roof opening and that half second made me miss my mark twice before i just had to take my hand off the remote and do it manually with the cab controls instead. the safety guys love it but they're not the ones sweating under a beam trying not to dent new steel.
