Had to choose between a Grove and a Liebherr on short notice yesterday
Foreman told me to pick between a Grove RT765E and a Liebherr LTM 1055 for a tight job in downtown Omaha. I went with the Grove because I know its steering better in cramped spots. Set took longer than I expected and I nearly clipped a parked car on the swing. Anyone else have a time where picking the wrong crane made the whole day harder?

Buddy of mine had a similar nightmare with a Liebherr in a tight spot last year. He swore the Grove was the safer bet too, but his foreman insisted on the Liebherr for a gas station job near a busy intersection. Ended up having to jackknife the outriggers twice because the counterweight kept brushing against a delivery truck. Took him almost an extra hour just to get set up and he still dinged a light pole on the boom swing. Says he still gets grief about it when the old crew gets together for beers.

Hear that story and gotta ask @the_cora - did the foreman ever admit it was the wrong call when they were all drinking later, or did he double down and blame the operator for the light pole? Seems like those kinds of calls always get pinned on the guy running the crane, not the one who picked the machine. A gas station lot is basically a puzzle box, you'd think they'd learn after the first outrigger jackknife.
