I finally gave in and started using the anti two-block alarm on my old rig, and I feel pretty stupid about waiting
Ran a 60 ton Link-Belt for about 9 years and always treated that alarm like a nagging passenger, kept the switch flipped off because it chirped every time I boomed down hard. Two weeks ago at a job site out in Chandler I was booming down with a full load of rebar and the thing went off, and I realized my block was about 4 feet from the head sheave, closer than I ever thought. My old logic was that I knew my machine and my drum limits cold, but I was dead set against it for no real reason other than habit. Started leaving it on after that and it has gone off twice more, both times on days when I was running late and rushing my setup. What I got out of it is that my gut is not a backup system, it is just a feeling. Anyone else run with theirs off for a long time and switch over, or am I the only one who was that stubborn about it?
