I finally saw a luffing jib up close at the Port of Tacoma open house
I drove down to the Port of Tacoma open house two Saturdays ago just to look around, and they had a luffing jib tower crane set up on display. I have run fixed jib cranes for 11 years but never touched a luffing one, so seeing the luffing winch and how the pendant lines run was a real eye opener. The operator there walked me through how he sets the jib angle before a pick, and he said the load chart changes with every degree of luff, which I knew but seeing the chart in person made it click. Does anyone here run luffing jibs on a regular basis, and what was the hardest part to get used to?
