Landed a 60 ton on soft ground last Tuesday outside Portland
The outrigger pads sank about 4 inches before I caught it. Does anyone carry extra cribbing for situations like that or just rely on the ground crew to call it out?

Call out ground crew every time on that kind of soil. I mean, 4 inches is enough to shift the whole load if you don't catch it fast. Maybe it's just me but seems like a pretty close call for a 60 ton.

Oh absolutely, @carter.julia you hit the nail on the head with that one. I had a similar thing happen last year on a job with loamy soil that looked solid but was basically wet cardboard underneath. We were setting a 50 ton transformer and the whole thing started tilting before we even got it fully off the truck. Took us an extra two hours to get the ground crew out there with mats and gravel. Four inches is way too close for comfort with that kind of weight, especially if you don't catch it the second it starts. It's scary how fast it can go from fine to a total disaster.
