Noticed something odd at a job site in Nashville last week

I was working a 50 ton crane on a 4 story commercial build near Broadway. What caught my eye was how many operators were using their phones to check load charts instead of the physical ones. I saw three guys in one day just pull up an app for their picks. Makes me wonder if we're getting too reliant on screens when signal drops or the battery dies. Has anyone else seen this shift happening on their sites?

Man, I think you're overthinking this a bit. I've seen guys use phone apps for years now and it's usually fine as long as they double check with a paper chart for the critical picks. Every operator I know keeps a backup binder in the cab anyway, so a dead battery isn't the end of the world. Your three guys in one day might just mean the paper charts were buried under their lunch bags.

Kinda like how everyone forgets their passwords the second they need them most.
