Old guy named Jerry at the yard talked me out of a 90 ton.
I was dead set on renting the big Grove for a hospital job in Austin last month. Jerry said I'd waste money on setup and the load was way under capacity. He pointed to a 50 ton Link-Belt and said that's all I needed. Sure enough, the job went smooth and I saved $400 on the rental fee. Now I actually listen when those retired guys pipe up. Anyone else get saved from overkill by a seasoned operator?

Read something similar in Crane Hot Line last month. Old timer named Hank wrote in saying the same thing. Said he's seen young guys rent the biggest rig just to look tough and lose money on transport. Jerry sounds like that Hank fella. Good advice pays for itself you know.
