Old timer told me to stop cranking the boom brake and I argued for 6 months

Guy named Red who's been running cranes since the 70s said I was over-tightening the boom brake on my Link-Belt. He said it would wear out the clutch pack way faster. I thought he was crazy until I blew a seal last month on a job near Dallas and had to rent a spare for 4 days. Anybody else get humbled by some old school advice?

Did you at least buy Red a beer after that? Nothing like a $10k lesson in "maybe the old guy knows what he's talking about.

$10k is a lot, but honestly some people just need to learn things the hard way. Not really that deep.
