Picking a load chart by feel vs actually reading it, who switched and when?
I ran a 60 ton truck crane for 9 years and used to eyeball radius and boom angle from the seat, and I got away with it until a pick in Baytown about 4 years ago where I was maybe 6 inches off on a 22,000 lb load. Now I walk the chart every single pick even the easy ones, which eats time and annoys the crew. So is the old gut method fine if you know your machine, or do you treat the chart as the only answer?
