Reading the wind at a 400 foot pick in Kansas City
Last month I had to set HVAC units on a hospital roof. The site super said use the 75 ton and put the mat down on the gravel, but the wind was gusting to 24 mph and I could feel the load swaying before I even left the ground. I made the call to go with the 100 ton and rig a tagline crew of two guys from the framing crew instead of trusting the smaller machine and the math on paper. Took an extra 40 minutes to set up but the lift was stable the whole way up. Anyone else override the plan on site and get flak for it, or do you usually just run it and hope?
