Serious question, what's the deal with the new crane setup at the Riverfront project in St. Louis?

I drove past the Riverfront construction site in St. Louis yesterday and saw they're using a 300-ton crawler with a luffing jib attachment. The setup looked tight, with the boom working over a pre-existing parking garage. How do you even calculate the load charts for a pick that close to an obstruction?

Seriously, isn't that just standard procedure for any competent rigging crew?

Ever see that video of the stage collapse at that outdoor festival? I used to think the same as you, that proper checks were just obvious. But watching pros break it down, they showed how one overlooked shackle pin led to the whole thing. Now I get why they have those crazy long checklists, even for stuff that seems simple. It's all about catching that one small thing everyone assumes someone else already checked.
