Clicked a link to a 'free wallpaper' site and my browser turned into a 1998 Geocities nightmare
Happened on a Tuesday, I was just trying to find a nice mountain photo. The popups wouldn't stop, and one link promised 'free ringtones' but just showed a broken GIF of a dancing baby. Anyone else get stuck in a loop of cursed links like that?

My buddy sent me a link to a "free guitar tabs" site back in college and it was the same kind of mess. A hundred popups promising you won a prize and a fake virus scanner that wouldn't close. There's this weird pattern where anything advertised as free just turns into a trap for your computer. Its like the internet learned that people will click anything that says free and now we are all stuck in this cycle of broken promises and sketchy downloads.

Gotta love how "free" on the internet really just means "we're going to make you fight through 47 popups and a fake system scan before you get anything." It's like every site learned from the same shady playbook (probably the one that promises you a free iPad). I tried downloading a "free" font once for a school project and ended up with a browser toolbar I couldn't get rid of for months. Makes you wonder if the whole "free" model is just broken at this point, or if we're all just too stubborn to pay a few bucks for something that actually works.
