Warning: that "official" browser update link is a trap, nearly got me at 2am
Last night I was hunting for a fix for a broken video player and clicked a result that looked like the real Chrome page. It asked me to download a 14MB "update" file, which felt off since my browser updates itself. I closed it and checked the URL, the domain was spelled chrom-e-update dot com or something dumb. Deleted the file and ran a scan, zero issues, but man that could have messed up my whole work week. Has anyone else seen these fake update links popping up on sketchy forums?

Ugh, these fake update traps are getting way too sneaky. Real question though: what kind of sketchy forum were you on? Cause Iāve seen these links mostly on sites with zero moderation or auto-approved user posts. If it was a popular forum, thatās a whole different level of scary. Did the fake page have a legit-looking security badge or certificate icon? Those are usually the giveaways for me.
