Changed my mind about using a matte finish on everything
I used to think matte was the only way to go for custom t-shirts because it looked more expensive. For a recent order of 50 shirts for a local softball team, I went with a glossy transfer instead on a whim. The colors, especially the bright orange and blue, really popped way more than they ever did on matte. The team captain said they looked 'sharper' in the sun during their games. Anyone have a rule for when to pick gloss over matte?

Seriously, it's just t-shirts. Gloss looks cheap to me in most light, but if the softball guys like how it looks on the field, then you picked right. I doubt anyone off the field is staring that hard at the finish anyway.

What about how the gloss feels, @ryan_stone, like if it gets sticky in the heat?

@iris441 that's actually a solid question. I've had cheap gloss shirts that turned into a tacky mess as soon as the temp hit 80, especially around the collar where sweat pools. @ryan_stone might not care about the finish off the field, but if the jersey is getting worn under the sun for hours, the sticky factor can make someone ditch the shirt altogether. Did you notice if the gloss held up after a wash or two, or did it start peeling?
