Pantone book fell apart mid-job, lost me 2 hours and a client's trust

Last Tuesday I'm matching a dark teal for a local restaurant's menu covers. I flip my Pantone guide and half the pages just slide out, glue gave up completely. Customer saw me scrambling with loose swatches and asked if I knew what I was doing. Paying $45 for a new one now, but that awkward pause cost me way more. Anyone else had a tool die at the worst possible moment?

Ugh, that is BRUTAL. A tool breaking is one thing, but doing it in front of a client is the absolute worst luck. That look they gave you probably stung more than the $45. I have been there with a tape measure snapping at the exact second I needed a precise width, total panic. The real kicker is that you can't explain it away without sounding like you're making excuses. Yeah, the money hurts, but that moment of doubt in your skills is the part that really sticks.
