Skeptical about expensive sublimation paper, ate my words after 300 prints
I ran a small print shop in Austin and always bought the cheapest sublimation paper to save about 15 cents a sheet. Colleagues kept telling me the premium stuff reduced ghosting and color shift, but I figured it was just marketing fluff. Then I did a 300 piece run of custom mugs for a hotel chain and every tenth mug had that blurry edge look. Switched to a mid-tier paper, paid 22 cents more per sheet, and the defect rate dropped from around 8 percent to under 1 percent. That one job cost me a reprint batch of 40 mugs, roughly $120 down the drain, before I wised up. Anyone else taken a hit on cheap consumables only to find the pricey version pays for itself fast?
