A coworker told me to stop using password managers because they're a security risk

He said they get hacked all the time, but after I looked it up, I found out that's basically a myth and the real risk is reusing passwords everywhere. Has anyone else had to argue with someone about this at work?

Yeah the whole "password managers get hacked all the time" thing is just FUD from people who don't understand how they work. The encryption on a good one would take centuries to break even if they stole the database. Honestly the biggest actual risk is forgetting your master password, which is way less dangerous than reusing "Password123!" on every site you touch.

I think Eric nailed it about the master password being the real weak point, but here's something a lot of folks don't consider - a password manager actually protects you from keyloggers and phishing sites in a way your brain just can't. If you type your password into a fake login page, your password manager won't auto-fill, which is basically a free alarm bell. So yeah, the "hackers steal everything" fear is way overblown when you look at how many attacks these things actually stop you from falling for.
