Blew $60 on a password manager that I didn't actually need

I was watching a video about data breaches and got all paranoid. Next thing I know I’m signing up for this premium password manager for $60 a year. Then my buddy who works in IT asked why I didn’t just use the free one that’s built into my phone. I never even checked. So now I’m stuck with a year of something I could’ve gotten for zero dollars. Anyone else jump on a paid tool before checking what you already have?

Is it just me or does this happen with everything now? We see a solution to a problem we didn't even know we had and we just throw money at it. I did the same thing with a meal kit service. Paid $80 for a week of pre-portioned ingredients and then realized I could just look up recipes online and buy the stuff myself for half the price. It's like companies are really good at making us feel unprepared for things that haven't even happened yet. We buy insurance for our phones, pay for extended warranties on a $20 toaster, and now we're paying for digital lockers our phones already have built in.
