Hot take: Catching a shady link by checking where it really goes

I stopped a data leak by hovering over a download button to see the actual file source before clicking.

Remember, hovering doesn't show every redirect.

Ever been tricked by a link that looked legit but sent you somewhere weird? Last week I clicked on a supposed recipe blog link from a forum, and instead of cooking tips, it redirected through two ad pages before landing on a survey. My browser history showed a totally different domain than what I hovered over. It made me realize how easy it is to hide redirects. Now I double-check URLs before clicking, especially on sketchy sites.

Totally feel you on that, it's a solid habit to get into. I almost got caught by a fake login page last month because the link text said "account settings" but the actual url was some random string of letters. Hovering saved me a huge headache lol. It's crazy how sneaky some of these redirects can be, they really try to make it look legit. Makes you check everything twice now.
