My bank login was almost stolen due to a phishing text
Check the sender before clicking links in texts.

Yikes, that's scary. People forget these scammers can now spoof numbers from your actual contacts. I got a text that looked exactly like it was from my dad, asking me to click a link for a "family photo album." The sender name showed his real contact, but the number was totally different. It's not just random numbers anymore, they're using your own trust against you.

It's getting way too common now (saw a news segment last week calling it "spear phishing"). They basically use leaks or social media to map out who you know. Always double check the actual number, even if the contact name pops up. A quick call to the real person is the safest move before clicking anything. Those links are never for a photo album, they just want to get into your stuff.

Wait, so the contact name actually showed up on your phone like it was saved? That's the part that gets me. How does that even work if the number is wrong? Is your phone just matching the scammer's fake name to a contact you already have saved, or did they somehow get into your contacts list to make it look perfect?
