My smart fridge tried to email a Russian server at 3 AM

My home network monitor flagged a weird outbound connection from the fridge, which was trying to ping an IP in Moscow. I had to unplug the thing and factory reset it, which wiped all my grocery lists. Has anyone else had a random appliance go rogue like that?

Check if your router got hacked instead. A compromised router can make any device on your network act weird, so the fridge might just be the symptom. You should update your router's firmware and change the admin password.

Yeah, a hacked router is a real thing. My old router got messed with and my printer started spamming weird DNS lookups. Replacing the router was the only fix that stuck.
