My whole home network went down for two days because of a cheap smart plug

Last month, I bought a no-name smart plug from an online store for about $15 to control a lamp. The setup seemed fine at first, but two days later, my internet just died. I spent hours rebooting my router, checking cables, and even called my ISP. They said everything looked good on their end. I finally unplugged that smart plug on a hunch, and my Wi-Fi came back instantly. I think it was flooding my network with weird traffic, maybe trying to phone home to some server. It was a huge pain and I lost a whole weekend of work. Has anyone else had a random smart device act like a mini denial-of-service attack?

Couldn't it have just been a bad firmware update that crashed your router?
