PSA: My brother's old router got busted because he never checked the default login

I helped my brother set up his home network last month in Austin and noticed he was still using the admin password that came printed on the sticker. When I ran a quick scan with a free tool, it showed his router had been accessed by unknown IPs 4 times in the last week alone. Has anyone else dealt with a family member who just ignores basic login security like this?

Oh man this hits close to home. I had a buddy in Houston who bragged about his "super secure" network until I borrowed his laptop and saw the default password literally taped to the monitor. Just plain old "password123" from the sticker. He got mad when I changed it but two weeks later his neighbor's kid had been hopping on his wifi to download torrents and he got a warning from his ISP. The kid even renamed his network to something embarrassing. He never changed it back after that. Now he calls me every time he buys a new router just to make sure he picks something decent. The scary part is how many people don't realize their router is basically an open door until something bad happens.

My ex's router password was literally "router" until I caught some rando using our Netflix.
