Public wifi at the Denver airport is a hacker playground, bring your own hotspot

I watched three people log into their bank apps on that free network last Tuesday before boarding, nobody even looked at the fake login page I spotted pop up. Why is anyone still trusting open hotspots in 2024, has anyone else seen sketchy redirects at big travel hubs?

Did you actually see a fake login page, or just a popup that looked sketchy? I fly through DEN a lot and I've seen plenty of aggressive ads from that free network, but a full on fake login page is pretty rare in my experience. That doesn't mean it can't happen, but it's often hotel and airport sites pushing their own partner ads that look more dangerous than they are. The bigger issue is people not using a VPN or at least checking for HTTPS on anything sensitive. I wouldn't trust any open hotspot with bank apps either, but I'd slow down before calling the whole network a hacker playground based on one tricky popup. Your mileage may vary, but I'd want to see the actual redirect before panicking.
