Found a cached version of a 2004 forum post about making soap from bacon grease
There was this old homesteading forum I used to read back in the day, and someone had this super detailed guide on rendering bacon fat into soap. I always thought it was a joke because the site looked like it was coded by a 12 year old in 1998. Then last month I stumbled on a cached version through Wayback Machine, tried the recipe, and now I have like 30 bars of bacon soap sitting in my closet. Smells weirdly good. Anyone else ever try making soap from kitchen scraps?

Wait, you actually have 30 bars of bacon soap sitting in your closet? That is absolutely wild. I honestly thought that was one of those urban legend type things, like people saying they make lye from wood ash in their backyard. But now I'm kind of curious about the smell because bacon is already such a strong scent, I can't imagine what happens when you add lye and curing to it. Did you have to do anything special to get the grease clean enough, or did you just straight up use the drippings straight from the pan?

30 bars of bacon soap lmao you're acting like that's weird but it's probably the most practical soap in existence.
