My uncle's old Geocities rant changed how I see dead links

Last week my uncle brought up a page he made back in 1998 about his cat, and he got sad it was gone. He said “it's not just a dead link, it's a little piece of who I was,” and that hit me different. I used to treat dead links as annoyances, just broken paths on a map. But now I dig through the Wayback Machine like it's a yard sale, looking for the stories behind the 404s. Anyone else feel weirdly attached to random pages they never saw the first time?

Wait, your uncle made a page about his cat back in 1998? That's wild.
