That cached recipe site I thought was gone turned up on Wayback Machine
Last month I went to pull up my grandma's cornbread recipe from a blog called 'Southern Kitchen Secrets' that vanished back in 2018. I figured it was gone for good since the domain was dead for years. But I punched the old URL into the Wayback Machine on a whim and found a full capture from 2019. Not only did the recipe show up, but there were 4 pages of comments with tips from actual home cooks. Has anyone else had luck finding old cooking blogs that way?

Southern Kitchen Secrets had a whole section in those comments where people posted their own variations using pantry staples during the 2007 recession. That kind of real world tweaking taught me more about cooking than any polished blog post ever could. Those old comment threads are basically a time capsule of how ordinary families actually cooked, not just what looked pretty on a plate.

Hang on, I'm the weird one here but I'm going to push back a little. I actually hate digging up old blog comments. Half the time the tips are from people who used different ovens or swapped ingredients because they couldn't find what the recipe called for. You end up with a messy pile of advice that doesn't even match the original recipe anymore. Plus those old sites were usually held together with HTML from 2005 and have like zero formatting. I'd rather just find a newer recipe from a blogger who actually tested it in a modern kitchen. The Wayback Machine is cool for finding a lost photo or something but for cooking advice it's usually more trouble than it's worth in my experience.
