The old Geocities page with my high school band's MP3s vanished overnight in 2009

I still have a screenshot of the neon green background with the spinning skull gifs saved on an old hard drive. Yahoo just pulled the plug on Geocities with zero warning, and my band's only recording went with it. We had like 12 plays total but that page was our whole online identity back in 1998. Anyone else lose a piece of their history when that whole platform got deleted?

Honestly losing that stuff probably saved you some embarrassment later. Most of those early band recordings were pretty cringey even back then, neon skulls included. One of my buddies had his old metal band demos on Geocities and he's secretly relieved they're gone because the guitar was out of tune on every track. Sometimes the internet does us a favor by wiping out our teenage mistakes.
