Dropped $40 on a "vintage mall crawl" tour that was basically a bus ride to an empty parking lot

Signed up for this guided tour from a local history group, advertised as a deep dive into 3 dead malls in the area. Paid $40 upfront. Turned out the "guide" just drove us to each spot, read a Wikipedia summary off his phone, and we sat on the bus for 20 minutes while he took photos. Didn't even let us get out and walk around because "liability issues." Total waste of a Saturday. Saw one Payless ShoeSource sign from 30 feet away. Has anyone else paid for one of these "curated" mall tours and gotten burned? Or should I've just stuck to my own car and a gas station coffee like usual?

Ugh, my buddy paid for one and the "guide" got lost and they ended up at a storage unit place.
