Food court fountain ate my AirPods at Granite Run Mall
I was eating a Cinnabon near the fountain at Granite Run Mall in Media, Pennsylvania back in 2019 when my AirPods case slipped out of my jacket pocket and plopped right into the water. Had to ask maintenance to fish it out with a net while some teenager filmed the whole thing - case still worked after drying it out for two days. Anyone else lose something dumb in one of those mall fountains?

Actually, Spencer, the rice thing is a myth. I used to swear by it too until I read some tests from phone repair shops. Rice can actually leave dust and starch inside your device that makes things worse over time. Youre better off letting it air dry with a fan blowing on it or using those silica gel packets that come in shoeboxes. But hey, 2019 AirPods are pretty tough, mine took a tumble in a puddle and the right one still cuts out sometimes.

Oh man, that's rough but honestly impressive the case survived. I'd say put that thing in a bag of rice for a full 48 hours instead of just two days next time. Rice pulls out all the moisture way better than air drying. I learned that the hard way when my phone took a dive into a toilet at a Wawa years ago. Also check the little mesh grates on the AirPods themselves, water can get trapped in there and mess with the sensors later on.
