I used to think a dead mall was just a place with a few empty stores

I was walking through the old Northgate Plaza in my hometown, which has maybe 3 stores left open, and I realized I was just snapping photos of the empty food court. A security guard came by and actually said, 'The real story is in the back hallways, kid.' That made me see I was missing the whole point. Has anyone else had a local guide point out something you totally overlooked?

Honestly, sometimes the obvious decay is the whole story right there.

Reminds me of this old barn near my uncle's place. Roof caved in years ago, but the frame's still standing. Weeds took over the whole thing.
